Pensar la historia de una comunidad implica inmiscuirse en sus saberes, en sus memorias, lugares y espacios; persigue el desafío de conocer e interactuar con las personas y su contexto social y político.
Ciencias de la Información está atravesando sus 40 años de trayectoria en el estudio y la praxis de la Comunicación Social. Para realizar un recorrido por los diferentes acontecimientos que componen su vida institucional, distintos actores aportaron sus testimonios y miradas. Fue el entrelazamiento de las memorias individuales lo que permitió acercarse las memorias colectivas que construyen la identidad de la ECI.
Las memorias de la ECI
Ciencias de la Información nació en un momento de la historia en que todas las transformaciones parecían posibles. Asomaba entre sus estudiantes el entusiasmo de un mundo revolucionado. En 1972 se crea esta institución educativa que empieza a generar debates sobre lo que sucedía en la sociedad, el rol del periodista, y a pensar el lugar de la comunicación en nuestras vidas. Se abrió un camino a nuevas voces y se conoció un campo interdisciplinar. El inicio de la ECI fue bastante convulsionado porque el contexto social lo era. Los sobrevivientes a la masacre de Trelew visitaron la institución. Se nombró en su presencia a la Escuela de Ciencias de la Información: Héroes de Trelew.
Durante esos primeros años, la vida académica se fue sucediendo con normalidad. La carrera se iba “acomodando”. En 1976, cuando las fuerzas militares irrumpen la escena, la censura, la violencia y la represión se establecieron en la vida universitaria. Ese mismo año, Ciencias de la Información es cerrada para nuevos ingresantes y es trasladada hacia ciudad universitaria donde radica hasta la actualidad.
Durante la intervención militar, el compromiso, la solidaridad y el pensamiento crítico intentan ser desterrados. Las nuevas voces fueron silenciadas, expulsadas y otras desaparecidas. Años difíciles para quienes seguían caminando, ahora lejos de aquella casa que los conectaba con el centro de la ciudad. El sueño de libertad, cada vez más lejos.
Aires de renovación
Con el regreso a la democracia, luego de años oscuros y dolorosos, asoma el optimismo: la idea de que era posible recuperar la voz y la participación. Vuelve la elección democrática a la Universidad. Muchos estudiantes se interesan por la comunicación aunque hay cupo de ingreso. La memoria, la verdad y la justicia se entremezclan con la vida académica y política de la comunidad de la ECI: 31 compañeros desaparecidos. Será el recuerdo más doloroso.
Ciencias de la Información alza la bandera de miles de estudiantes en defensa del derecho al ingreso irrestricto. Campañas, sentadas y protestas transforman el ánimo de la comunidad universitaria e impacientan la tranquilidad de las autoridades. Finalmente la ECI se consagra como la primera casa de estudios con ingreso libre para todos.
Avanzada neoliberal
Los 90 sorprenden a los estudiantes. La Ley de Educación Superior invade cada rincón de la Casa de Trejo. Asoma la amenaza de privatización de la educación pública. La comunidad educativa de Ciencias de la Información se suma a los repudios generalizados, se potencian los proyectos de extensión, las campañas solidarias por el país, se habla de medios comunitarios y alternativos. La ECI ofrece resistencia a la avanzada neoliberal.
El desánimo recorre las aulas por la falta de presupuesto, de cátedras concursadas y de acceso gratuito a la universidad.
Renuncia un presidente y el 2001 marca el cierre de una etapa. Los valores y convicciones se cristalizan. Nace Radio Revés, una experiencia comunicativa y contrahegemónica. Las voces se potencian, reclaman espacios y oportunidades y se escriben los 21 puntos de la Ley de Servicios de Comunicación Audiovisual. Desde Ciencias de la Información se organizan foros y discusiones. La ECI integra el Consejo Federal de Comunicación Audiovisual representando a todas las carreras de comunicación. Llegan las condenas a los represores y responsables de vejámenes y delitos de lesa humanidad. Colocamos una baldosa por la memoria de los compañeros desaparecidos. Nos debemos ser facultad.
